The Face

This is the alarming face behind The Electors Charter. A George V beard, as we say in Britain, now covers it.

I was advised that first impressions count on the Web. A normal camera-view might spoil your day. So this web-cam image softens the blow. Here I am doing blue-sky thinking. As you see, it switches on the light-bulb above my head.

I am in my 71st year and live in Wales, UK.

How the Electors Charter came to be written

A long time ago now, I read a copy of The [European] Charter of Fundamental Human Rights at Warwick Public Library, England. I was so disgusted by its lack of vision and cohesion, after sixty years of its European dream, I sketched out a counter-Charter. I called it The Charter of Fundamental Individual Power. Which reversed its hidden purpose of switching power from Electors to the EU and the meaning. The term “Human Rights” offended me, and always will. I dislike being addressed, by officials (that I do not acknowledge), as a ‘human’, a herd-able part of a species, or some steer (castrated bullock), to be corralled and conveniently driven West by these new political cowboys.

So, I asked myself this vital question: Where did the EU get these “Rights”, in order to be able to give them to us? Anyone who seriously asks this question is led to the judgment: “From us, by theft”!

It was obvious to me that only the People in democracy, as Electors, have the fundamental authority to correct politicians. But how? In our Representative System, these two are opposites, with different functions. I went to bed unable to solve the puzzle. I woke suddenly in the middle of the night, as if a loud rifle-shot had been fired, with a most vivid picture in my mind. It was of a straight bar-magnet being bent into a horseshoe magnet. I had not a clue what it meant. But so powerful was the shock, I went to the computer. As I began, I realized what my mind was saying. We, the People and Parliament are like opposite ends of a magnetic bar. Rather than being attracted to politics, we are repulsed. But bend the bar parallel, for fixed, joint action, and we get powerful attraction. Thus, Parallel Democracy was conceived, as a means to re-attract much lost goodwill and know-how. (Introduced in post “J” of the Charter series.)

Other metaphors came with great power on different occasions, to advance my thinking. I had decided from the start to consult no books on the matter, but puzzle it out for myself. Consequently, Parallel Democracy is different. It is written as a Charter because only by a Charter can we regain supremacy. The EU Charter and Constitution were methods designed to extract our sovereign authority as Electors and make us subject to the undemocratic EU, its institutions and laws. The EU poses as the defender and dispenser of democracy and of any rights to it across Europe. Therefore, a long-lasting counter-Charter, from the People, “up to” (as some would say) but across to (as I say) these presumptuous, self-crowned politicians and officials, alone can wrench back our powers and perpetual, rightful property.

Just an Elector

It must be clearly understood that I have no connections with politics at all. No wish to get involved at all. Like most people, I have an aversion to conventional Party politics. I distrust all commercial media. The modern BBC, too, like a fallen angel. I have no desire for office. I see myself as a node on the network we call democracy. In fact, I waited nearly twenty years for better minds, more qualified, to speak rather than myself. But, no one (to my knowledge) said what I now must say. I am the least important person. But, in democracy, that is fair enough, if what is said is vital. For that reason, The Electors Charter comes late. Some would add, “at the last moment”.

Against my wishes, the matter is likely to burn my time more!

The Daily Difference

For constitutional reasons, I am a slow thinker and a slow reader, too. (I buy many books, but almost never read them. Yes. I know! It is illogical.) Also, I have for a long time been developing schemes in my head, without sufficient energy to carry them out. So, after finishing The Beginning, the first draft of The Electors Charter 2011 to be published, I decided to use The Daily Difference as a forum for its debate.

I am a blog baby. Expect several, probably howling, mistakes! I chose ‘The Daily Difference’ as the title because it shortens to “D..DIFF”, (two d’s and two f’s), is easy to remember and pronounce as one word, with ddiff.com as its Web address. Maybe “ddiff”" will be its nickname.

What do I mean by The Daily Difference? Regular, persevering, eventually revolutionary, change by each of us. Which includes anything really worthwhile and creative that comes into your head or mine. It is about making big and small differences to transform our private and public worlds. So, I hope readers will plant flowers, photos, videos, etc., as well as comments.

The Daily Difference is what we all need to create to reach our goals. Of course, “different” means a surprising range of things among very different people! To a person who cannot walk, travel or move, the words are about unusual, fresh focus and discovery. To an entrepreneur, difference has huge market significance.

Have a hug!

We all need one, physical or not. The intellectual variety is insufficient. You’ll need one after reading and thinking about this blog and The Electors Charter!

By the way, if my readers have really interesting, superb value products, projects or services that are genuinely “different”, let me know. Though, don’t rush me. Perhaps, they could feature in conversation at one of the ‘Tables’ (main discussions) at this multi-topic, drop-in cafe plus scenic restaurant and open-air trails. Expect live electric cables hanging out of the walls and from the ceiling, while you converse. This is a kind of imaginative building-site, too! Later, some connecting-blogs, (like outbuildings to this rambling property under major development), are somewhere in my mind.

With particular thanks!

The most helpful people in this enterprise have been those who have made me think again and again! Beginning with my son David who said long ago, “Dad. Nobody’s going to read something with a hundred points!” (I had exactly such a naive list.) Robert and Celia Bliss, who encouraged me to proceed. My son Peter, who argued line by line. Forced to re-write yet again, I benefited. Tanya Podgornova who expressed strong belief in my approach. Graham Park who gave me that remark about our rulers: That democracy is “whatever they say it is”. Simon Payne for his strong dislike of an element at the beginning of an early draft, which I removed. David Evans for “playing devil’s advocate”. Genia Sozanska, who helped correct an earlier version. Others perhaps prefer anonymity. I am so grateful to complete strangers, on buses and trains. To patrons of a laundrette at Borth, Ceredigion, where I tried out some of the Articles. They assured me they hated politics. So, when they became enthusiastic, I was reassured. To Aberystwyth University students, especially foreign ones, I am most grateful. Also for many ordinary people who led me to extraordinary thoughts! To Trevor Sewell, the gentlest and most considerate of friends. Thank you all so much!
